This is where Phuket’s first resort, The Phuket Island Resort (now the Evason) was built. The sand is not as beautiful as on the west coast and the sea goes a long way out at low tide, but Rawai has a charm of its own, not least because of the laid-back atmosphere of the many restaurants on the other side of the road from the beach. It’s a favorite with Thais, which tells you everything about the quality of the food. In behind, along Sai Yuan Road, are lots more restaurants and bars, along with some delightful high-quality homes where you can escape from the world.
