Phuket’s prime tourist destination, backed by a no-holds-barred town full of great shops (including Phuket’s largest shopping and entertainment centre, Jungceylon), hotels, bars and nightclubs. The beach is wide and the water is shallow for a long way out, with almost no currents, making it ideal for children to play safely.
For all these reasons, the beach can be crowded in the high season but, to compensate, Patong also offers more than any other beach in the way of water sports – sailing boats, snorkeling, jet-skis, banana boats, parasailing and more.
There are plenty of villas for rent, with the most beautiful ones generally up in the hills behind the town or to the south. As a result you can stay in secluded peace with jaw-dropping views and gorgeous sunsets, yet never be more than ten minutes from the action.
